Scotland occupies the very north of the British Isles, bordering northern England to the south. The nine regions in Scotland are :~
There are also the main
island groups of The Orkneys, Shetlands and Inner and Outer Hebrides.
To confuse the traveller many of the old county names, such as
Perthshire and Aberdeenshire are still frequently used.
The Main geographical features :~
Geographically the area
is divided into three parts. To the south there are the southern
uplands rising to a height of 2,600 feet, Further north there
is a central rift valley, this area contains most of the population
and to the north occupying most of the Scottish territory is the
Highland region which has the highest mountains in Britain rising
up to 4,400 feet. The highest mountain in this chain is Ben Nevis.
