A 400 year old, busy country Pub with a traditional atmosphere, set in a village location 5 minutes drive to Aylesbury. Beamed in part with an open fire and a large L-shaped bar. There is a large car park and beer garden, and 5 en-suite rooms with colour TV and tea / coffee facilities are also available. Full English breakfast included. A restaurant serving home cooked and locally sourced food, with bar snacks available on Friday lunchtimes and traditional roast on Sunday. Three hard pumps serve beers such as Greene King, IPA, Brakspear and Black Sheep. The Inns current name came about when some men from the village hung a gate on the allotments to keep animals from straying. After the gate had been hung they celebrated with a dinner and thereupon formed the Gatehangers Club. Easy access to Oxford, Aylesbury Vale and London, and for Waddesdon Manor, Bicester retail outlet village and "Midsomer Murder" country. |

The Saracens Head Inn, situated in Amersham Old Town, was built in 1530 at Number 38 Whielden Street, formerly known as Union Street when Amersham Hospital was known as The Workhouse. The Pub is steeped in character and was built from timbers removed from old ships. The building surrounds a central courtyard which was originally a travellers coaching Inn. The original stables have been converted into two function rooms which overlook a secluded garden and patio / barbeque area. The bar area boasts a large open log fireplace surrounded by ornate horse brasses and large wooden beams. Our in-house Chef offers delicious home-cooked food lunchtimes and evenings from our extensive menu, with a specials board which changes daily. A selection of fine wines and real ales are available to suit every palate. This combination and the ambience of this truly traditional English Pub is so rarely found. Rumour has it, two ghosts roam the building, one is supposed to be a young serving wench from the 17th century. The other still remains a haunting mystery. |

The Rising Sun is the perfect setting for a totally relaxing break, away from the hurly-burly of modern day life. Delicious, well-prepared, imaginative meals are offered together with a fine selection of traditional 'real' ales and a short but decent wine list; The entire premises are now totally No-Smoking areas. Old fashioned hospitality, comfort and warmth are the passwords of The Rising Sun; with such a long tradition there is very little room for modern day gimmicks. |
