The 'Clive Arms' bar with adjoining courtyard
provides a comfortable area to enjoy local traditional ales,
a wide range of wine by the glass and light snacks. It separates
into two sections, an 18th century lounge area in traditional
style with log fire and featuring the original coat of arms of
Clive of India, who has close connections with the village of
Bromfield. A more contemporary upper area leads to an outside
courtyard with tables and parasols for the warmer months. o |

The Bull is one of Ludlow's oldest buildings. The earliest mention on record is 1343 when it was known as Peter the Proctor's House. However, it probably dates back to the construction of St. Laurences Church in 1199. Looking from the courtyard the building is Tudor in style, but from the front the style is Georgian. This is because of a fire in 1795 resulting in the facade being rebuilt. This friendly, lively town centre inn has a excellent laid back atmosphere. Sample some drinks from the well stocked bar. We handle a large amount of draught and bottled, real ale, lagers, stouts and ciders. We offer a large selection of bar meals, a vegetarian menu and "Specials of the Day". Locally sourced ingredients add to the excellence of the food. We offer four rooms, all en-suite, with two double and two twins, one of which can be made into a family room. You will find the bedrooms warm and comfortable with central heating, colour television and tea / coffee making facilities. Phil and Sally Maile provide a hearty English breakfast to kick-start your day. |

The Boars Head is one of the earliest surviving buildings in Bishop's Castle, which itself is a former borough and a market town of ancient foundation. The town takes its name from the Castle (of which little remains) built here in Norman times by the Bishops of Hereford who were Lords of the Manor. Accommodation at the Boars Head is in the "Curly Tail" which has previously been used as the stable block for 16 horses, a bar and function room, but was converted in 1988 into four motel-style bedrooms. Every room has its own door at ground floor that opens onto the Inn's car park and is fully equipped with en-suite bathroom, colour TV, tea and coffee tray and direct dial telephone. Indeed the Boars Head was the first accommodation establishment in Bishop's Castle to offer all en-suite facilities. |
